This country estate already existed in the 16th century, when it had a large, formal French-style garden.

In 1830 it was converted into a pretty landscaped park. It contains a Duch garden, a rose garden,

grazing land for animals, rhododendron woods and an ancient beech tree.

 

Overgrown bunkers in the wood are a sombre reminder of World War II, when the Netherlands

was occupied and the most senior German authorities took up quarters in Huis Clingendael.

At the center of the park lies the famouse Japanese garden, which was created in the beginning

of the 20th century.

The former owner of the country estate of Clingendael, Marguérite M. Baroness van Brienen

(1871-1939), also called Lady Daisy. She visited japan in 1911, and became so impressed

by the Japanese garden art that she decided to lay out a garden in Japanese style on

her estate Clingendael (Valley between the dunes).

 

Lanterns, a water cask, sculptures, the pavilion, the little bridges and several plants were

brought over from Japan by boat at the time. The original design with the serene pond,

meandering brook  and the winding pathways has remained intact all these years.

 

In 1954 the estate became the property of the city of The Hague and was opened to the public.
The garden was placed on the list of national historical monuments in 2001.

เค้าบอกว่าเสนอไปแล้วตอนที่รู้ว่ามีตำแหน่งเปิดอ่ะ
แต่เค้าก็พึ่งเซ็นต์สัญญาไปทำงานที่เมืองจีนก่อนหน้านี้เพียงหนึ่งวัน...
ทั้ง ๆ ที่รองาน และก็อยากกลับมาทำงานที่เนเธอร์แลนด์อยู่เป็นนานสองนาน...
